If left untreated, carpal tunnel syndrome pain can make simple tasks like typing at a computer difficult. The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) may begin as a dull ache in your hand or a tingling that extends to your fingers, but they may get worse over time into numbness or constant pain. Carpal tunnel braces are a cheap therapy option you can attempt at home to lessen your symptoms in addition to consulting a doctor or physical therapist.
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs when the median nerve, a nerve that passes through the carpal tunnel of the wrist, is compressed, causing symptoms such as tingling in the fingers, numbness, pain, and possibly muscle weakness as a result.
As grip strength deteriorates over time, it may become more challenging to make a fist, hold onto small things, or carry out other manual duties. The most prevalent cause of CTS is work stress, which includes repetitive use of vibrating hand tools, assembly-line work, or even data entry jobs. Other causes of CTS include rheumatoid arthritis, fluid retention during pregnancy, or menopause.
How Do Carpal Tunnel Braces Work?
In order to relieve pressure on the median nerve and lessen the symptoms of CTS, wrist braces hold the wrist in a neutral posture. The majority of wrist braces come with plastic or metal splints to assist in stabilizing your wrist and stop it from unintentionally twisting or bending. By keeping your wrist largely immobile, it helps lessen the repetitive movements which can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition, compression gloves and sleeves can help ease discomfort by supporting and enhancing hand and wrist circulation.
There are three types of carpal tunnel braces: standard support braces, sports braces, and post-operative wrist braces.

This wrist strap feels more like a compressive glove that hugs your wrist but doesn't restrict it, unlike other wrist straps that can be bulky, uncomfortable, and limit your range of motion. It can be worn on either the left or right wrist, unlike other models. It is also the first carpal tunnel brace of its kind to be lined with copper, which may help reduce inflammation.

Other Treatments For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
While we highly recommend carpal tunnel braces for treatment of CTS, we would be remiss if we didn't discuss other treatment options for the condition.
Warm and Cold Therapy. Until their symptoms go away, CTS patients can ice or immerse their wrist in an ice bath for 10 to 15 minutes every hour or so. Others might respond better to dipping their hand three to four times daily in warm water that is between 92 and 100 degrees.
Over-the-Counter Drugs. Pain relief and inflammation reduction may be aided by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such ibuprofen and naproxen. Additionally, some lotions that are administered topically help reduce discomfort. In order to ensure that these painkillers do not interact unfavorably with other medications being used, one should, of course, always speak with their primary care physician.
Take a Break. People with CTS should think about discontinuing the activity that is generating the compression. It is usually wise to take regular breaks from any repetitive motion, at the very least. To enhance blood flow to these areas, set a timer for 15 minutes, then stop what you're doing and move your wrists, hands, and fingers.
Therapy at Night. Since many patients sleep with their wrists bent, symptoms frequently appear at night. Shaking your hand and wrist lightly can help you sleep better at night, as can hanging your hand over the side of the bed. Additionally, a cushioned resting splint designed specifically for use at night helps prevent people from overextending or flexing their wrists while they sleep.
